external image bw.GIFWelcome to Eighth Grade Social Studies! You can achieve success in this class (and in life) with a positive attitude, a willingness to work with others, persistence and the courage to take a chance every so often. I admire those who have the courage to try something new, and I will provide numerous opportunities for you to do so in my classroom. Always feel free to come to me with any questions about this course or any other general concerns.
There are two overall goals of this class. First, students will learn the necessary tools to become proficient students of history. Second, they will understand the responsibilities, privileges and choices of all American citizens.

Course Overview
This class begins with the causes of the American Revolution and continues through the early 1860s. The course covers topics such as the American Revolution, origins of the American nation, the Constitution, the Industrial Revolution, westward expansion, and the causes of the Civil War. Throughout the course, students will develop and utilize organizational skills, identify physical and political geography, examine government and political systems, study economic factors and characteristics, describe life during various historical time periods, and examine the influence of the United States in relationship to the world.
